Angel investors are individuals who provide seed capital for start-up businesses, usually in exchange for equity. They also bring business skills, connections and other forms of assistance. Our investors have business and personal networks spanning New Zealand, Australia and further afield. And they have experience in a broad range of industries and markets.
For investors, angel investing is a great way to help to support and mentor the next generation of entrepreneurs with hard-won skills and experience, and get exposure to the best innovative high-growth companies in the Canterbury region and throughout New Zealand.
Typically, individual angels will invest between $5,000 and $100,000 in any one deal. Often, deals are syndicated with other Angel Investment clubs, networks and partners in the Angel Association NZ. Canterbury Angel Investors aims to syndicate investments with other Angel Networks which are accredited SCIF partners (which means the potential for qualifying transactions to receive matching funds from the Government’s Seed Co-Investment Fund). Eligibility to invest is regulated by the Financial Markets Conduct Act – more information about guidance of who is eligible to invest can be found here on the Angel Association of New Zealand website.
